RAY'S STORY

RAY CAME TO LIVE WITH US AT THE END OF MAY 2002, WE WERE SO PLEASED TO GET HIM, HE WAS PICK BOY OF THE LITTER.

BEFORE WE TOOK HIM HOME JEAN MENTIONED THAT HE SEEMED TO HAVE A SCRATCH ABOVE HIS EYE AND GAVE US SOME CREAM.  THE NEXT DAY HIS EYE HAD SWOLLEN AND HE WAS REALLY OUT OF SORTS - IT WAS BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY SO OFF TO SEE THE EMERGENCY VET.   HE GAVE US ANTIBIOTICS.

WE RANG JEAN AND TOLD HER, SHE IMMEDIATELY SAID BRING HIM BACK - YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO COPE WITH A SICK PUPPY.  WE REPLIED ONCE AN ANIMAL CROSSES OUR THRESHOLD AS OURS THEY DON'T GO ANYWHERE, WE WILL DO THE VERY BEST WE CAN BY HIM.

THE NEXT DAY RAY WAS WORSE, SO BACK TO THE VETS, THEY CHANGED THE ANTIBIOTICS AND SAID TO GIVE IT A COUPLE OF DAYS TO GET THEM INTO HIS SYSTEM.  BUT HE JUST BECAME MORE ILL.

SORES STARTED TO BREAK OUT ALL OVER HIS HEAD, ROUND HIS MOUTH, ON HIS FEET - ALMOST ALL OVER HIS BODY AND HE BECAME VERY WEAK.  NONE OF THE OTHER DOGS APART FROM ALF WOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM AS HE WAS GIVING OFF AN INFECTED ODOUR.   HE HAD BECOME JUST ONE BIG BAG OF PUSS WE REALLY THOUGHT THAT'S IT - HE'S JUST GOING TO DIE.

WE RUSHED HIM BACK TO THE VETS, BY THIS TIME HE WAS UNABLE TO STAND AND JUST PEE'D WHERE HE LAY

AT THE VETS THEY PLACED HIM ON A DRIP SENT BLOOD SAMPLES TO THE LAB AND WE WAITED.

THE RESULTS CAME BACK PUPPY HEAD GLAND OR AS WE NOW KNOW IT JUVENILE CELLULITUS.

THE ONLY COURSE OF ACTION THEY COULD TAKE WAS TO TOTALLY SUPPRESS HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM WITH THE HIGHEST DOSE OF STEROID THEY COULD GIVE HIM AND THEN MASSIVE DOSES OF ANTIBIOTICS.   THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, SLOWLY REDUCING THE STEROID INTAKE.

JEAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE IN OUR CARE FOR RAY, ONCE HE HAD RECOVERED SHE PICKED UP ALL THE VETS BILLS.

RAY AGED 4.5 YEARS

UNFORTUNATELY RAY HAS HAD TO REMAIN ON 5MG OF PREDNISOLONE EVERY DAY ALL OF HIS LIFE, WITHOUT IT HE DEVELOLPS FLUID ON THE LUNGS.

HE HAD HIS BLOODS CHECKED AT 6.5 YEARS AND HIS LIVER AND KIDNEYS ARE STILL FUNCTIONING WELL - ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.

DUE TO THE STEROIDS RAY NEVER REACHED HIS FULL POTENTIAL, HE ONLY MEASURES 30" TO THE SHOULDER, HIS MUZZLE REMAINS QUITE BALD AND HIS SKIN IS EXTRA SENSITIVE

BUT TO US HE WILL ALWAYS BE OUR LITTLE MIRACLE

AND HERE HE IS AGED 7 YEARS 9 MONTHS - NEVER TO OLD TO PLAY IN THE SNOW

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAY - 9 YEARS TODAY - 3 APRIL 2011

NOT AS QUICK OR AS AGILE AS YOU ONCE WERE BUT STILL ENJOYING FOOD AND RUNNING IN THE PADDOCK

R.I.P RAY - IT WAS A PLEASURE TO HAVE OWNED AND LOVED YOU, SO SORRY TO LOSE YOU.

STILL STRONG IN HEART AND MIND - UNFORTUNATELY THE LEGS BECAME WEAK.
